Established in 2009, No Heroes, is a music magazine dedicated to punk, hardcore and metal. It is as simple as that.

Basically, this is a magazine about bringing into the limelight the bands that we are interested in, the people in the industry that are doing great things, and just generally any cool shit we come across.

We pride ourselves on having the highest quality writing and photography in the magazine, and try to keep things as original and fresh as possible, by conducting our own photo shoots for covers and attempting face-to-face interviews wherever possible.

We’re journalists, writers, photographers and graphic designers. Most of us play in bands. Some of us wish we played in bands. No one makes any money from this, and all time and work spent on this magazine is volunteered.

If you wish to get in contact with us, or have any questions about contributing, advertising or other general comments, please email us at info@noheroesmag.com

Sarah Petchell – Editor-In-Chief

Sarah is a music journalist that has spent many years freelancing and working for music publications. Jaded with having to write about bands she had no interest in, she left her last music journalism job and branched out on her own, starting No Heroes. Her favourite band is either Radiohead or Dillinger Escape Plan, depending on which day it is. Sarah also writes a weekly column about all things punk/hardcore in Drum Media (Sydney), Time Off (Brisbane) and In Press (Melbourne).

Craig Nye – Photo Editor

With over 5 years experience shooting music in Sydney, Craig has shot previously for Drum Media, Australian Guitar Magazine and has been published in Blunt Magazine, Death Before Dishonor, and in numerous album and DVD artworks, as well as merchandise over the years. Craig listens to Fugazi, every day.

Oliver Cation – Music Editor

Oliver is a little bit of this and that. As well as handling reviews and scouting fresh bands for No Heroes, he works for Strikehard Bookings as a booker and artist manager for various acts. In his spare time, he also sings in Sydney-based Converge worship band, Fixtures. He doesn’t have a specific favourite band and if you asked him he would say "Remembering Never, Converge, Slipknot, Bishop, The Gorgeous..." so we just don’t ask him anymore; it takes too long. Oliver is involved with No Heroes because he, like the rest of us, understands the power of great music.

John Hatfield – Photographer

John Hatfield got his start photographing the sleeve of Nirvana's landmark Nevermind LP in 1991. During the course of the two-week shoot, over 50,000 pounds of equipment was destroyed due to water damage. A crew member was also hospitalised after an infamous near-drowning incident. With a significant amount of compensation and legal fees still owing, Hatfield has taken on any and all work since. While his OHS training may be suspect, we cannot fault his art.

Tom Hill – Writer

Straight Edge, Vegan and over opinionated! If your band doesn’t sound like Judge then there isn’t a huge chance that Tom is going to enjoy your release. Being involved with the hardcore punk scene for the past seven years he knows what he likes and definitely knows what he doesn’t. Studying full time at the University of Sydney to become a high school teacher Tom also spends close to six months of the year working with street children in the Philippines. As his time spent in the Sydney hardcore scene is half what it could be, Tom has no interest in wasting time on bands that aren’t sincere. PMA Everyday!
